”Learning the language is the way to gain acceptance”
Eight months was all it took. After that Dutchman Philip Levelt could read Danish, understand Danish, and even give presentations and participate in meetings in Danish!
Philip Levelt is 40 years old and Commercial Manager at the electronics company Siemens. When his job brought him to Denmark, he decided straight away that he wanted to learn the language. And it had to be at EEC Language School.
- ”I wanted to send a signal to my colleges that I wanted to learn their language in order to show them respect. I didn’t want to be the reason for all meetings having to take place in English. And furthermore, it is Denmark I live in now. I’m interested in the country and I want to learn the language!” says Philip Levelt, who contacted EEC Language School and received intensive lessons twice a week for eight months.
- “It was very intensive, but at the same we had a lot of fun in the lessons. I travelled a lot and often had to cancel or move the lessons. But that was no problem. My teacher and I arranged the lessons together”, says Philip Levelt.
He is very satisfied with the results. In the beginning he was very sceptical. In fact, he didn’t think he would be able to learn Danish so well so quickly.
-”Today my Danish is good enough to enable me to function normally at work. And I think this has earned me a lot of respect. I tend to say that ‘learning the language is the way to gain acceptance’. And in my case this holds true after the course at EEC. I had a good experience”, he says.
